THE DUNE COCOON 2024
A pitch for a new SUNSHINE BEACH home where the design centres around the concept of A cocoon PERCHED ON A DUNE, such that the inhabitants feel COMPLETELY + DETACHED TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN when using BOTH the interior or the exterior. Massing is stacked towards the ocean interface AT THE EAST and a large exterior space TO THE WEST is wrapped by the massing ON THE STREET SIDE such that it becomes part of the architecture, AND SCREENED FROM THE NUMEROUS APARTMENTS ACROSS THE ROAD.
LIVING ZONES ARE ELEVATED TO BEST TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE VISUAL CONNECTION TO THE OCEAN ON THE EASTERN SIDE, WHILST PROVIDING A SHELTERED ELEVATED TERRACE AWAY FROM THE OCEAN TO THE WEST. A LARGE APERTURE WITHIN THE ROOF PROVIDES CONTROLLED DIRECT LIGHT TO BOTH THE INTERNAL + EXTERNAL SPACES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON PROVIDING SHADE DURING THE HOTTER MONTHS.
